V-DIG Audit: SodaStream

V-DIG Audit — SodaStream International

Enterprise Technology Stack & Vendor Relationships

SodaStream operates as a subsidiary of PepsiCo, which maintains a multi-cloud strategy encompassing partnerships with Microsoft Azure (entered in 2020 as a five-year agreement) 1, AWS (collaboration announced in 2025) 2, and Google Cloud (partnership deepened in 2026) 3. PepsiCo utilizes Microsoft Azure for enterprise resource planning migration and global data infrastructure management 14. Genpact implemented the “SodaFlow” quality and safety management system for SodaStream specifically on Microsoft Azure infrastructure 4. At the group level, PepsiCo has partnered with IBM Consulting for data and artificial intelligence transformation initiatives, building a unified data fabric architecture across its global operations 5.

Regarding Israeli-origin cybersecurity vendors, PepsiCo is identified as a customer of Torq, an agentic artificial intelligence security operations platform 6. The Torq AMP (Advanced Managed Protection) partner ecosystem explicitly includes Check Point Security, an Israeli cybersecurity company, and Wiz, an Israeli cloud security startup, as participating partners 6. No public evidence has been identified of direct, named licensing or subscription relationships between PepsiCo or SodaStream and specific Israeli cybersecurity vendors beyond this Torq ecosystem connection.

Procurement and systems integrator relationships reveal that no public evidence has been identified of named systems integrators engaged specifically by SodaStream for technology programmes operating separately from PepsiCo’s global information technology governance. While PepsiCo utilizes IBM Consulting at the group level for enterprise artificial intelligence adoption, no SodaStream-specific information technology integrator engagements with Israeli subsidiaries have been documented 5.

Surveillance, Biometrics & Retail Technology

No public evidence has been identified of SodaStream deploying facial recognition, biometric identification, behavioral analytics, or gait analysis technologies at any of its facilities. No verified relationships with Israeli-origin vendors in this technology category—including Trigo, BriefCam, AnyVision (now Oosto), or Trax—have been identified. The company’s operational focus remains centered on consumer beverage carbonation appliances rather than surveillance instrumentation.

Concerning indirect third-party deployment pathways, no public evidence has been identified of Israeli-origin surveillance technologies reaching SodaStream indirectly through managed security services or bundled enterprise software suites, beyond the documented Torq, Check Point, and Wiz ecosystem connection 6.

Cloud Infrastructure, Data Residency & Sovereign Cloud Participation

In relation to data centre operations within Israel, Microsoft Azure Israel Central region launched in 2023 7. Amazon Web Services Israel (il-central-1) region launched in August 2023 as part of Project Nimbus infrastructure serving the Israeli government and defense establishment 8. No public evidence specifically confirms that SodaStream or PepsiCo utilizes Azure Israel Central, AWS Israel, or Google Cloud Israel regions for their computational workloads; it remains possible that these cloud partnerships instead utilize global non-Israeli geographic regions.

Regarding data processing in Israel, the SodaStream Australia Privacy Policy explicitly discloses that consumer personal information may be transferred and processed outside the customer’s place of residence, to countries including Israel which are subject to different standards of data protection 9. This disclosure confirms that at least some SodaStream consumer data is transferred and processed within Israel.

With respect to Project Nimbus, no public evidence has been identified that SodaStream or PepsiCo participates as a contractor, subcontractor, or tier-two supplier in Project Nimbus. Project Nimbus represents a $1.2 billion government cloud contract between Google and Amazon Web Services and the Israeli government, encompassing government agencies, the defense establishment, and the Israel Defense Forces 8.

No public evidence has been identified that SodaStream provides services marketed to ensure digital sovereignty for Israeli state institutions or military bodies.

Defence, Intelligence & Security Sector Technology Relationships

Regarding direct military and intelligence contracts, no public evidence has been identified of SodaStream holding contracts, partnerships, or service agreements with the Israeli Ministry of Defence, Israel Defense Forces, Mossad, or Shin Bet. SodaStream’s business comprises the manufacture and sale of home carbonation appliances for consumer markets 1011.

Concerning dual-use technology applications, no public evidence has been identified in any source of SodaStream’s commercial technology being deployed for military, intelligence, or law enforcement surveillance purposes.

In relation to controlling principal connections to the defense sector, Daniel Birnbaum, who served as SodaStream Chief Executive Officer from 2007 to 2019, joined the Advisory Board of Massivit 3D Printing in January 2026 12. Massivit 3D has pivoted toward defense and aerospace sectors, manufacturing drone components for the Israeli military 13141516. Massivit signed strategic collaboration agreements with Israeli defense manufacturers including Kanfit, which produces components for Israel Aerospace Industries, Elbit Systems, and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems 1415. No evidence connects Birnbaum’s current Massivit advisory role to SodaStream’s current operations.

AI, Algorithmic & Autonomous Systems

No public evidence has been identified of SodaStream providing artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, or autonomous decision-support systems to Israeli state, military, or security bodies. At the parent company level, PepsiCo has invested in artificial intelligence and data analytics capabilities for supply chain optimization, demand forecasting, and consumer behavior analytics 235. No evidence identifies any PepsiCo artificial intelligence capability provided to or utilized by Israeli state, military, or security bodies.

No public evidence has been identified of SodaStream operations involving artificial intelligence model development or training pipelines.

Technology Ecosystem & R&D Footprint

Regarding Israeli research and development infrastructure, SodaStream operated manufacturing and research and development operations at the Mishor Adumim industrial zone in the West Bank from 1996 until 2015 1011. The factory completed its withdrawal from Mishor Adumim in December 2015 and relocated to the Idan HaNegev Industrial Park in the Negev region near Rahat and Beer Sheva in September 2015 101117. The current research and development focus centers on physical product engineering, specifically carbonation technology, appliance design, and carbon dioxide cylinder systems—oriented toward consumer products rather than software, digital platforms, or cybersecurity products 17.

Concerning acquisitions and investments, no public evidence has been identified of SodaStream acquiring Israeli-origin technology companies or making strategic investments in Israeli technology startups. PepsiCo completed its acquisition of SodaStream in August 2018 for approximately $3.2 billion 18.

Regarding intellectual property, SodaStream holds patents primarily in carbonation technology, beverage dispensing mechanisms, and carbon dioxide cylinder design—patents consistent with its manufacturing identity as a consumer product company 10.

Civil Society Scrutiny & Regulatory History

SodaStream has been documented by the Who Profits research center for its historical operations at the Mishor Adumim industrial zone during the period 1996-2015 11. The American Friends Service Committee Investigate database maintains a company profile documenting SodaStream’s historical West Bank operations 10. SodaStream is not listed on the current United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Settlement Enterprise Database, as verified across the 2020, 2023, and 2025 iterations of that database 19. The United Nations Special Rapporteur Franzisce Albanese report (A/HRC/59/23, July 2025) naming approximately sixty companies across eight sectors does not identify PepsiCo or SodaStream as subjects of that examination 20.

The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign targeted SodaStream prominently between 2012 and 2018, based on the settlement manufacturing location at Mishor Adumim and associated labor practices 1011. The factory closure in 2015 and subsequent PepsiCo acquisition partially addressed campaign concerns raised by civil society organizations. The International Centre of Justice for Palestinians sent formal warning letters to major United Kingdom retailers in November 2025 regarding legal exposure from stocking SodaStream products due to settlement enterprise connections 21.

Regarding constructive notice considerations, SodaStream’s primary documented connection to occupied territories through manufacturing at Mishor Adumim concluded in September 2015, predating the International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion (July 2024) and International Criminal Court arrest warrants (November 2024) by approximately nine years. No activity has been identified that commenced or continued after July 2024 in circumstances where International Court of Justice constructive notice principles would apply.

No public evidence has been identified of regulatory inquiries, export control proceedings, or sanctions-related investigations specifically involving SodaStream’s technology sales or services to Israeli state entities. PepsiCo Form 10-K filings do not disclose specific technology vendor country of origin or Israeli technology procurement requirements 2223. The PepsiCo Global Code of Conduct covers labor, environment, ethics, and anti-corruption provisions but does not disclose technology vendor origin requirements 24.
